Hitch-hiking to Canada
While some of us are mourning the passing of the 1986 ski season in New Zealand three Turoa Skifield patrollers are off to Canada for more of the same. Richard Jones. Chris Conway and Tom O'Donnell will all be working on ski patrol at various Canadian skifields as part of a work exchange scheme. The reciprocal arrangement will provide yearround employment for a number of patrollers from New Zealand and Canada,
as well as boosting the exchange of ideas and experience of ski patrol methods. Richard Jones and Tom O'Donnell will be working at Panorama Skifield in British Columbia and Chris Conway will be at Sunshine in Alberta. George Duncan, who is Ski Patrol director for Panorama skifield, worked for the Turoa patrol this year and helped organise the exchange. The scheme was instigated by patroller Rob Berry who travelled to Canada for last year's northern hemisphere winter.
