Local film producer

Larry Parr 34, is the son of Ray and Iris Parr — owners of the Ruapehu Hotel in Raetihi. Larry Parr set up his own film company "Mirage" in 1979 after being involved with other people's film projects for some years. He was keen to put his own ideas into practice and within the space of three years his company had produced six feature films ("Constance", "Pallet on the Floor", "Came a Hot Friday", "Shaker Run", "Bridge to Nowhere" and "Queen City Rocker"), making him one of the most prolific film producers in New Zealand history.

In 1982 he was chosen to handle the Pacific end of the big budget production "Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence", starring actor and singer David Bowie. Since then Larry Parr's progression has been rapid. "Shaker Run" was the highest grossing movie ever made in New Zealand, and "Bridge to Nowhere" was the first New Zealand film to pre-sell for a sum equal to its entire budget. This feat was repeated with his next effort "Queen City Rocker". Now he is preparing to catapult Mirage films into the film world, making films both in New Zealand and overseas.
