Simonsen's Cup challenge beaten off by Ohakune

The Rapanui Women's Bowling Club challenged cup holders Ohakune Women's Bowling Club last week in an exciting clash for the Simonsen's Cup. The challenging team from Wanganui made up of skip J. Stewart, third W. McGregor, second D. Wooding and lead B. Campbell. faced current champions.

skip A. Nation, third B. Brown. second R. Kaiwhare and lead B. Hammond in a cliff-hanger match that could have gone either way. It was a very evenlyplayed game with Rapanui leading 1 7: 1 6 in the last end. before Ohakune managed two shots to win 18:17. The green improved steadily throughout the match and was quite fast towards the finish.

Congratulations are extended to greenkeeper Pat Whale from the players, for the immaculate condition of the green on which he worked long and hard to maintain over the winter season. The reigning champion team Ohakune meet Castlecliff in two week's time in the second challenge for the Simonsen's Cup. which they have held since last season.
