Neighbourhood support meeting planned
Awareness of the frequency of burglary, vandalism and other petty crime has led the Ruapehu Lions Club to call a public meeting to form a neighbourhood watch support group. The proposal is based on the idea that ordinary people can do something about crime by being part of such a group. Among the objectives of a
neighbourhood watch support group are to: help people help themselves, look after property, prevent home break-ins, prevent crime and vandalism, prevent theft and possible violence to homeowners and public, ensure the security of community and community proprty, report suspicious activities and help the police by supplying useful information. People who are part of a
group can help one another protect their own and others property, and their personal safety. A neighbourhood watch group will help to build a better community spirit, reduce crime and give people a greater sense of security in their homes and on the streets. The meeting is to be held at 7.30pm on Tuesday 19 August at the Lions Den, Arawa Street, Ohakune.
