Ohakune-Karioi beat Wanganui Pirates 24-0

Ohakune-Karioi beat Wanganui Pirates 24-0 on Saturday in the only rugby match played in the Wanganui combined division one championship. The game was played in miserable, cold conditions at the Karioi Domain. It was transferred from Ohakune's Rochfort Park as lack of water in Ohakune meant no showers.

Under the poor conditions both teams adapted quite well, and both sets of backs tried to run the ball. The game was 10 minutes short after both captains agreed to call it off due to the freezing conditions, when the score reached 24-0. Despite the mud and cold, and second half snow, the game was hard-fought, and both packs struggled for supremacy. Ohakune-Karioi's backs

managed to throw the ball around even in the sticky conditions.. For Ohakune-Karioi forwards Graeme Pike, Bruce Mpher and Richard Matthews had good games, as did backs Ray Brown, Steve Gordon and Robbie Manson. Scorers for OhakuneKarioi were: tries by Decade Akapita, Steve Gordon, Ricky Harding. Lachlan Harding (2) and two conversions.
