Prison staff relocated
Waikune Prison, just south of NationaLPark is set for closure within the next year. The Justice Department's attempt to reduce spending by $20 million means tht staff and inmates will be transferred to other prisons, and the prison buildings offered for tender. As yet there have been no offers made for the premises, and no interested parties are known of. The fate of the institution will ultimately be decided by the Government. Already, the majority of the staff have been relocated.
