Waimarino topple Taumarunui

Waimarino United beat Taumarunui for the second week running on Saturday in the first round of the knock-out cup. The 4-3 score was a fair indication of run of play after both teams had been ahead on a wet, slippery ground. Tom Ball scored first for Waimarino after nine minutes but Taumarunui soon struck back and went ahead 2-1. James Waerea equalised for Waimarino, and before long right winger Glen Journeaux and John Laurenson scored to put Waimarino ahead 4-2 at halftime. During the second half Waimarino played a more defensive game in an effort to keep Taumarunui out. Taumarunui scored one more to leave the final score 4-3 to Waimarino United. Waimarino play Hautu Prison at Turangi next week.
