Tourist promotion film
Familiar faces frpm television caught the attention of many last week when a film crew was working around the Ruapehu region. Continuity personality Bob Parker, well-known for This is your life, among other programmes, and Cathie Strong seen on Beauty and the Beast, and Fourth Estate, were the actors in a tourist film being made for the American market. This is New Zealand is a magazine series of half-hour films shown on U.S. cable TV in 49 states and on some city stations. Co-producers Ali McDonald and Joanna
Paul produce the films for Energy Source TV, one of the contenders for the third TV channel. The Ruapehu filming was for their winter series of five programmes which include sections on Ohakune and
Turoa and on Whakapapa and the Chateau. The film will look at tourist attractions around Mt Ruapehu, skiing in particular, as well as emphasising the history and way of life of the region.
