Butcher-baker changes tack
Turner's Butchery and hot bread shop in Seddon Street Raetihi has undergone something of a transformation over the past few weeks. The shop no longer sells the smaller quantities of meat as a retail outlet. The smaller portions are now available across the road at Foodmaster. The meat arrives fresh from Turners every morning, and weekly specials are offered. Brothers lan and Bruce Turner and Ian's wife Sue have been a familiar Raetihi feature for the last couple of years. They produce a variety of cakes, pies and bread as well as offering the meat. They plan to continue with the baking but will be selling only bulk meats from now on, which lan says are cheaper than elsewhere. The change came about because of the rise in demand for bulk meat. , Already they deliver their bulk meat to Wellington and the Wairarapa, while their cakes and breads are sold in Waiouru, the Wairarapa, National Park and on Whakapapa skifield. Turners deliver meat free and their shop in Raetihi is open every day until 2pm.
