Ohakune Police have some household items, including a chillibin and kitchenware, which they would like to return to their owner. The property was found last month in Mangarewa Road, off Tohunga Road, in a concealed position. Police believe the property was probably stolen. ★ ★ ★ An inmate of Hautu Corrective Training Centre, Turangi, was arrested on Sunday by Raetihi Police, charged with escaping lawful custody. The 1 8-year-old man allegedly took a car from a property between Turangi and National Park. He was followed by Raetihi Police along Valley Road, Raetihi from the Tohunga Road turn-off to Raetihi. The man appeared in Wanganui court yesterday. ★ ★ ★ On the night of Thursday 12 June, Raetihi Police arrested a local man for a fraud offence committed in Wanganui in October 1985. The man will appear in the Ohakune District court this Thursday. ★ ★ ★ Raetihi and Taumarunui Police are investigating the theft of a bag of potatoes from a road-side stall in Valley Road, Raetihi. The theft occured last Friday morning. Taumarunui Police have spoken to a motorist and enquiries are continuing. ★ * ★ During the early hours of Wednesday morning, Police and the Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade attended an accident on State Highway 49 by the Waimarino Gun Club. A car, which was travelling towards Raetihi, left the road and rolled. The driver, David Sanson, 26, from Wanganui, was uninjured. ★ ★ ★ Raetihi Police attended an accident last Tuesday morning on Parapara Road. A Cortina stationwagon travelling south 20 kilometres south of Raetihi with a Honda Civic travelling north at a sharp bend, named "Baddeley's Corner". The sole occupant of one vehicle and the two occupants of the other vehicle were uninjured. ★ ★ ★ A two kilogram gas bottle was taken from outside an unoccupied caravan parked at the Raetihi Camping Ground last Tuesday night. ★ ★ ★ Sometime during the first 10 days of June, 1500 litres of diesel, 1 2 gallons of oil, 20 litres of grease and five spades were stolen from the Hapua whenua Bridge construction site. Police are investigating the theft.
