Ohakune nursery clean-up
Ohakune Borough reserves supervisor, Grant Drabble, said in his written report to council recently that a longawaited clean up of the borough nursery in Mangawhero Terrace extension had begun. Lupin plants which were invading part of the nursery had been removed. Trees were healthy and growing well, and might be big enough to plant out in reserves this winter, he said. He also reported that Miro Street Stream had been cleaned out, and banks sprayed where necessary. Spraying had also been carried out along Junction Stream banks where there was overhanging growth. Overgrown trees and plants have been cut back from the road in Lakes Reserve. The worst pot holes have been filled in and the picnic area tidied up. Mr Drabble said the borough 's PEP worker had done an excellent job around the reserve over the last few months. A number of rock garden and perennial plants have been established at the Garrot Gardens. Most of these were generously donated by the McConachie family.
