College work day
Over $4000 was raised by Ruapehu College students during their work day recently. Part of the money is being used to purchase kayaks, which have already been ordered. Most of the remainder of the money will probably be spent on catering equipment to be used when sports teams visit the school. The student who raised most money from the day was Sondrya Dixon who made $40. She received a book token for her effort.
Teacher Dave Archibald's hapu, Weka 2, raised $344, which, per person, was more than any other hapu. The hapu will be shouted a barbecue at Lakes Reserve when the kayaks arrive. Tui was the winning whanau and all members of the group will not have to pay the 50 cents required on the school's mufti day. Organiser of the work day, Derek Beisly, said most of the students did fairly mundane jobs such as clearing sections and cleaning houses but they all managed well.
