SOCCER

Saturday 5 April saw the Waiouru northern league side travel to Te Aroha to take on the newcomers in the league. Both teams started slowly, unsure as to how each would perform. After about nine minutes Waiouru took the lead with a well-taken goal by Kel Hawley. Te Aroha replied almost straight away through a defensive error by Waiouru. Waiouru replied with a wellworked goal with Kel Hawley laying on a good ball to Wayne Gordon for Wayne to score. Two more goals came in the second half, one more by Kel Hawley and one by Steve Bailey. The final score was Waiouru 4 Te Aroha 1, and a good start to the season. On Sunday 6 April Waiouru Celtics played Cadets A at Waiouru. This game saw the Cadets run out winners by 3 goals to 1.
