Family kite day soon

Kites, big and small, plain and gaudy, simple and complicated, will be flying over the Waimarino soon when a familyfun kite day is held. The kite day will be on Saturday 17 May, the middle weekend of the school holidays. Members of the New Zealand Kite Fliers' Association have been invited to attend the kite day and will bring some outstanding kites. The community-fun project is sponsored by the Waimarino Bulletin and organised by Cliff Marks, a member of the association. Over the next couple of

weeks articles will be published in the Waimarino Bulletin giving ideas on how to build kites. Local bookshops are being encouraged to have books available on kite-making. There will be prizes on the day for the residents of the Ruapehu region in categories such as biggest kite, smallest kite, most original kite, and

best home-made kite. Allowance will be made for the age of builders and fliers. The kite day is sure to attract great interest from both participants and observers. So come on budding kite fliers — get building! Further details will be published in the public notices column of the Waimarino Bulletin.
