College netball success
For the first time in ahout three years, the Ruapehu College 1 team won the opening day netball competition on Saturday. The team, which plays mostly against adults, includes students from First year through to fourth year. New netball coach Jane Hudson said the girls hadn't played as a team until Saturday, so their performance was solely their own ability. Previous coach, Merrilyn George, said she thought the
girls had a new enthusiasm as they were glad to have a young member of the staff as their coach. Jane Hudson has come from Auckland where she coached the senior A team at Rosehill College and played for the Auckland under-21 team. She is hoping to keep the team's spirit up and is planning inter-school and other outside games as well as Saturday morning competition with Waimarino Netball Association teams. Next Saturday is grading day when teams are sorted into A or B grades.
