Raetihi second-hand shop wins employment board loan
Bessina Rewi of Raetihi's second-hand shop, 'Welcome Inn', has been given a boost with a loan from the Wanganui Regional Employment Board.
The $6000 loan, at just five per cent interest, has helped her buy a van for her shop. Previously, Bessina had to use her car to transport goods for the shop from larger towns such as Wanganui. She often had to make several trips to transport everything. But now she can fit double beds, dressers, washing machines and other heavy furniture in her van and make just one trip. The board will consider
giving loans to anyone who is starting a business or creating employment. Although Bessina's business was already off the ground, she was still eligible for the loan and is very grateful for it. She is only the second person to receive such a loan from the board, which gets its money from donations. Bessina started her secondhand goods business nearly six months ago. After much hard work she is doing well and has recently increased her stock by using the rear of the shop for display as well as the front.
