SCHOOL CRICKET
Ruapehu College played their second game of competition cricket at Taihape College on Saturday. The game, a plate semifinal in the Dobson Cup open competition, was held in glorious weather. Taihape started strongly after Ruapehu lost the toss and were forced to field first. At one stage Taihape were 76/3, however Ruapehu's wily spin attack took control and Taihape were all out for 1 18 in 41.2 overs. Dave Archibald was particularly impressive and finished with figures of 6/29 in eight overs. Although nine of the ten wickets fell to Ruapehu's spin-twins, Archibald and Baker, all the bowlers con-
tributed in a strong team display. However Ruapehu's frail batting was exposed under pressure and they were all out for a disappointing 62. Richard Hamlin batted extremely well with Darren McDonnell top scoring with a hard hit 13 at the bottom of the order. After two Dobson Cup open competition games, Ruapehu College has gained valuable experience for its first interschool competition game against Taihape College tomorrow. The teams will be without adult players from Saturday's game. For Taihape G. Thomias and P. Transom, who together contributed 5 1 of the 118 runs, will be absent, while Ruapehu will be without Archibald.
Scorers: Taihape College: 1 18 (G. Thomas 32, P. Transom 19. D. McDonnell 9 overs 0 / 1 6, D. Brider 7.2 overs 1/12 K. Baker9 overs, 3/14, D. Archibald 8 overs 6/29). Ruapehu College: 62 (D. McDonnell 13. C. Benson 5 overs 3/7).
