Ohakune On the evening of Thursday 27 February, a red Toyota Hi-lux utility was damaged while parked outside the Waimarino Bulletin office in Clyde Street between 5.30 and 7.00pm. The left door was kicked in and Ohakune Police would like to hear from anyone who saw the incident. ★ ★ ★ Chainsaws and a portable television were taken from Cedar Service Station in Clyde Street on the night of Friday 21 February. Three chainsaws were recovered nearby but the television and one other chainsaw have not been found. ★ ★ ★ At 11.30am on Tuesday . 25 February Ohakune Police arrested a Bay of Plenty man for theft of petrol from Cedar Service Station. The theft was committed at about 1.30am. National Park and Ohakune Police stopped the offender's vehicle about two kms south of the Waikune Prison on State Highway 4. Ohakune Police returned to Ohakune with the offender and he will appear
in the Whakatane Court during March. ★ ★ ★ The two youths charged in connection with the burglary and damage of the Ohakune Primary School on 5 January appeared for sentence in the Ohakune Children's and Young Person's Court on 27 February. Both the boys, aged 15 and 16 were placed under supervision of the Department of Social Welfare for 12 months and ordered to undertake 40 hours community work. A reparation order was also made against them. ★ ★ ★ Police are investigating a burglary at the Ohakune Hotel bottle store on the night of Saturday 1 March in which bottles of spirits worth about $600 were taken. Raetihi A Wanganui man's car parked at Whakapapaiti Stream in National Park while he was hunting was stolen, scavenged for parts and set on fire on Saturday evening. Raetihi Police constable Trevor Pullen said the fire endangered a large area of bush and caused callouts from the National Park and Raetihi Volunteer Fire Brigades. The 1974 Triumph was taken between 6.00and 8.00pm and driven to a strip of bush between State Highway 4 and the railway line near the Makatote Viaduct where it was stripped of its wheel assemblies, engine parts and a radio cassette. National Park and Waiouru No incidents reported.
