COLLIE CLUB
Farmers and their dogs from near and far competed in the Raetihi Collie Club dog trials at the Wiggins' property on Parapara Road recently. The standard was high with about 400 entries and a field of 100 in each event. From funds raised by a stock drive last year, the club was able to purchase a new cookshop for the event. Locals who won trophies in the trial were: Brett Journeaux, John Journeaux, John McCarthy, Brian Gibson, Mike Chayton. Special prize for the youngest competitor: Nick Deighton. Winners of the four classes were: Class 1: 1st B. Bourke with Lady (Wanganui), 2nd J. Journeaux with Tramp (Raetihi), 3rd M. Leslie with Joker, 4th R. Robinson with Spike, 5th P. Sorenson with Glen. Bracelet won by J. Journeaux. Class 2: 1st B. Bourke, 2nd A. Davis with Rees, 3rd M. Wedd with Roy, 4th P. Sorenson with Glen, 5th A. Davis with Lady. Bracelet, I. Munn with Pat. Open aggregate for class 1 and 2: B. Bourke with 192 points out of 200. Class 3: 1st B. Scannel with Jackson, 2nd J. Lowes with Royson, 3rd D. White with Guy, 4th C. Joblin with Puppy Dog, 5th J. McCarthy with Solomon. Bracelet, B. Scannel with Jackson. Class 4: 1st E. Pratt with Cloud, 2nd B. Joblin with Puppy Dog, 3rd J. Journeaux with Joe (Raetihi), 4th B. Christie with Roam, 5th J.
