Plunket fun run popular

A large turn-out of runners, some serious some not so, enjoyed the Waimarino Plunket Society's family fun run last Saturday. There were two eourses, one four and the other eight kms, to divide pram pushers and the infirm from budding marathon runners. There were some very good performances and after their exertion runners could enjoy a free drink and a sizzled sausage in a picnic atmosDhere under Ohakune 's carrot. The run raised S400 for the local Plunket Society. Main results were: Men's 4km: 1st Lance Bishop 17.30, 2nd Jeff Drayton 17.47, 3rd equal Phil Jackson and Graeme Pike 20.07. Ladies' 4km: 1st Rene Bloxham 24.30, 2nd Helen Hubbard 24.52, 3rd Peggy Bishop 26.38. Boys' 4km: 1st Robert Taylor 20.07, 2nd Frank Taylor 21.06, 3rd Michael Hope 22.14. Girls' 4km: 1st Nonie Cleary 20.57, 2nd Michelle Hammond 21.06, 3rd Carys Hubbard 21.40. ' Men's 8km: 1st Chris Thrupp 24.59, 2nd G. Christian 25. 1 2, 3rd P. Nelson 26.49. Ladies' 8km: 1st J. Bidwell 34.49, 2nd Glennis Betty 35.25, 3rd E. J. Bridge 35.26. Boys 8km: 1st Hayden Darbyshire 35.10, 2nd equal James Foster and Mathew Tailby 36.28, 3rd Warwick Hays 38.24. Girls 8km: 1st Pip Kinred 35.10, 2nd Rebecca Gibson 49.39.
