Lions' raffle funds trust

The two winners in the Ruapehu Lions raffle were presented with their prizes at the Ohakune Lion's Den recently. Mrs Millie Waara of Raetihi, whose huband won first prize in the raffle and presented it to her, has taken her sister-in-law from Auckland with her on a trip for two to Sydney. Sponsors of the first prize were Bank of New Zealand Travel, Air New Zealand and Jet Set Tours. Mr Ross Brown, also of Raetihi, will be venturing down the Wanganui River

with his wife Barbara after winning the second prize. They will be travelling on the M.V. Wakapai, Winstone Oliver's river boat, for five days from 24 March. The trip will revive old times for Mr Brown as he lived near the river many years ago. Proceeds from the raffle, totalling $2528, were presented to chairman of the Waimarino Rescue Trust, Terry Tapp. The money adds to the amount already raised to equip the local helicopter for emergency rescues.
