Open squash tourney
The Reynolds Ford Open Squash Tournament organised by the Waimarino Squash Club was held over the weekend and was a highly successful event. The tournament. which has been run for four years now. attracted entries from manv A-grade players who were guaranteed free entry. This year A-grade men Dennis Sharrock, Wanganui, Merv Tapp, Marton, and Phil Wallace, Wellington, and A-grade women Joanne Williams, Taihape, Jean Peed, Taihape, and Eryl Emmanuel, Rotorua, attended. Prizes of $170 first, and $75 second were offered in, the open events, as well as cash prizes in all plate events. Club president Marty McGrath thanked the sponsors, Reynolds Ford and Dowman's Four Square, and said the tournament could not have taken place without them. Upcoming events include barbecue tea and social
games on Sunday 2 March. Those who have paid their subs are asked to collect their keys as the locks will be changed at that time. Results of the tournament were: Men's open: winner Phillip Wallace, runner-up Dennis Sharrock; plate Warrick Goile; special plate Merv Tapp: consolation prize Ray Leevey. Ladies open: 1 Joanne Williams, 2 Eryl Emmanuel. Men's division one: 1 RossGillett, 2 John Laurenson, won on toss of coin as equal points. Division two: 1 Geoff Barclay, 2 Matthew Mowat. Division three: 1 Jason Leevey, 2 David Meerwood. Ladies division one: 1 Elsie Valle, 2 Cynthia Pickering. Division two: 1 Vicki Pearce, 2 Helen Leevey.
