Park tracks upgraded

Several tracks in the Tongariro National Park are being upgraded by park workers this summer. Senior ranger Paul Dale said that volcariic soils eroded easily and after a few hundred people had trekked over them, especially when rainfall was high, the tracks rapidly degraded. Work is going on now on the Ketetahi Track to the hot springs area and on the Taranaki Falls Track, while the Silica Rapids Track was upgraded last year and is now in first-class condition.
