Detective post for Ohakune

A detective will be stationed in Ohakune within six months according to Superintendent Peter Wiersma of the Wanganui Police. Superintendent Wiersma said he thought it futile to have two CIB personnel at Taihape but none in the centre of the island, and Police Headquarters had agreed to establish a position at Ohakune.

It is thought that travel time between Taihape and here as well as increased work in this area were reasons for the new position. One of the Taihape positions, which has been vacant for about a year, will be transferred to Ohakune within the next six months. Extensions to the Ohakune Police Station are planned to provide extra office space.
