Ohakune District Court
The following cases were heard by Judge E. W. Unwin in the Ohakune District Court last Thursday. Police Sergeant Neil Coker appeared for the prosecution. Traffic Officer Ian Harrison appeared for the Ministry of Transport. ★ ★ ★ Raymond Arthur Entwisle, appeared on a charge of possession of cannabis. He was fined $200 and ordered to pay $35 costs. ★ ★ ★ Craig Kenneth Walker, appeared on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm. He was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon in 12 months, and ordered to pay $300 costs of prosecution. ★ ★ ★ Kevin Barry Searle, appeared on a charge of excess blood alcohol. He was fined $300 and $35 costs, and ordered to pay DSIR fee of $32 and medical expenses of $38, and disqualified from driving for six months. ★ ★ ★ Ashley Phillip Dunstan, appeared on a charge of receiving stolen goods, four charges of breaking and entering, and one of possession of firearms. He was remanded to the Wellington District Court on 28 January 1986 for sentence. ★ ★ ★ Malcolm Bowring pleaded not guilty to charges of offensive language, and resisting arrest and was remanded to 27 February 1986.
On two charges of driving without a licence, he was charged $35 costs on each and disqualified from driving for three months. ★ ★ ★ Waimarino Draglines were charged with two counts of failing to display a licence. They were fined $100 and $35 costs on both charges. ★ ★ ★ Mouta Larry Waho appeared on a charge of excess blood alcohol. He was fined $300, charged $35 costs and was disqualified from driving for six months. ★ ★ ★ John Martin was charged with failing to display a distance licence recorder and was fined $40 and charged $35 costs. ★ ★ ★ Henry Cyril Mott was charged with driving while disqualified and was fined $800, costs of $35 and disqualified from driving for 1 8 months. On a second charge of driving with excess blood alcohol he was fined $500, charged $35 costs and disqualified for 18 months. ★ ★ ★ Following a defended hearing, Shane Lee Garrett, charged with careless use of a motor vehicle, was fined $100, ordered to pay $35 costs and $64 witness expenses, and ordered to attend a defensive driving course. ★ ★ ★ Lloyd Neville Romeril and Paul Ashley James Young, both of Palmerston North, appeared on charges arising out of a series of incidents that occurred at Ohakune in the early hours of 17 August 1985. Following a defended hearing lasting three hours, Judge Unwin convicted Romeril and Young of theft of tools, motor vehicle accessories and clothing, the property of Benno Speilhofer. Young was also convicted of interfering with a motor car and taking a motor car. He was remanded to the Ohaune Court on 5 Febru-
ary 1986 for probation officer's report and sentence. Romeril, who also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and taking a motor car, was remanded to the Palmerston North District Court for probation officer's report and sentence. ★ ★ ★ William Gardner Wilson of Ohakune appeared on two charges of assault following an incident in the piiblic bar of the Ohakune Hotel on 6 December. During the incident, the defendant assaulted the bar manager and the licensee of the hotel. On each charge he was fined $300 and ordered to pay costs of $35. ★ ★ * A warrant to arrest was issued by Judge Unwin for Gary Anthony Owen for failing to appear on a charge of disorderly behaviour.
