Speak up on reserves

The Ohakune Borough Council is very keen to get the people of the area to have their say on the future of the four reserves within the borough boundary. These are Jubilee Park and Ohakune Domain recreation and scenic reserves, and Rochfort Park and Christie Park recreation reserves. Under the 1977 Reserves Act the council has to prepare management plans for these reserves but before it does that it would like to know what local people want. There is particular need for those who have knowledge of the Maori and Pakeha history of the areas, and of the birds, animals and vegetation in the past and today, to have their say so these values can be taken into account and protected in the plans. The council has already put together outline development plans on Christie Park for the 1982 review of planning schemes and opinions on these would also be welcomed. If you use the town's reserve areas or have any interest at all in them please come to the council, look at the plans available there, and decide what you would like. You can write out your ideas and send them to the council, PO Box 30, Ohakune, or go to the office and say what you think. However there is a time limit — you have only until Monday 10 February.
