Police File
Taihape CIB still have no definite leads about the two persons who left Michael Punch semiconscious in his Rangataua home last week, said Detective Sergeant Colin Sanderson. Police are hoping to hear from anyone who saw a dark blue Mark 3 Cortina with round spotlights between the headlights and aerial on the right front guard. The two men, described as Maoris in their midtwenties, one about six foot and of strong build and the other five foot eight of stocky build, attacked Mr Punch after he disturbed them in his house on Saturday 7 December. Mr Punch had heard shouts at his house while at his mother's place nearby and went to his house to investigate. When he tried to ring the police the men hit him repeatedly over the head and shoulders with a heavy chair and then left in the Cortina with a small amount of property. Mr Punch received cuts and lacerations and a broken shoulder. Detective Sergeant Sanderson said they are following some lines of enquiry but would like more information from the public.
