National Park water and sewage scheme

Marshal Gebbie, chairman of the National Park Community Council, says that the new National Park sewage and water scheme should be initiated by February 1986. The recent approval by Tongariro National Park Board of the Mahuia Intake gravity-fed system has removed one of the main obstacles in the way of beginning the scheme. "It is anticipated that the other main obstacle — the money problem, will be overcome through government loans and subsidies," said Mr Gebbie. Stage 1 of the project will bring water to the National Park boundary and stage 2, which should take some time to complete, will provide reticulation throughout National Park.
