Cyclone Cedric

'Cyclone Cedric was at Turoa Skifields before last week's bad weather to service the ski-lift cables. This involved cleaning, lubricating, checking for faults and shortening the jumbo T-bar cable by three metres to take up the slack from three seasons' use. Cedric and three Turoa summer maintenance workers stood in snow for five hours resplicing the cable. Asked why he was calj,ed 'Cyclone Cedric', he was reluctant to find a reason, but one of the Turoa crew explained — "Because every time he'comes a cold front comes with him!" Cedric Chambers left after three days for a South Island skifield, leaving the foul weather behind. The outlook for the south? Mainly fine!
