Ngamatea pet day

Cone are the days when rural children brought all their farm animals to school pet days. Nowadays, domestic animals dominate the scene, as was shown at the recent Ngamatea School Pet Day. All the 15 children at the 'school and some preschoolers from around the area showed off their pets watched by parents and friends. After morning tea the judges, Pam and Merv Matthews, watched the children parade their pets around the school field and awarded prizes in seven categories. They also judged vegetable creatures and flower arrangements in sand saucers which the children had made. Everyone had lunch after the judging and later parents inspected their "children's work in the classroom. The day finished with a game of softball, the result of which was a draw.

Winners of the pet day were: Most unusual pet: 1st Lindsay Johnson, 2nd Carla Benson, 3rd Marc McKenzie, 4th Susanne Woodley. Leading: 1st Linda Woodley, 2nd Brendon Morris, 3rd Karina Ford, 4th Anita McDonnell. Calling (children stood away from their pets and called to them): The pets which came to their owners best were 1st Selena Johnson, 2nd Brendon Morris, 3rd Karina Ford, 4th Anita McDonnell. Grooming: 1st Shaun Manson, 2nd Belinda Hounsell, 3rd Marc McKenzie, 4th Linda Woodley. Noisiest pet: 1st Jessica Brown, 2nd Karina Ford, 3rd Lindsay Johnson, 4th Carla Benson. Most obedient: 1st Brendon Morris, 2nd Anita McDonnell, 3rd Belinda Hounsell, 4th Shaun Manson. Pre-school: Most unusual, Allisdair Beatson; leading, Lachlan Beatson; calling, Adam Brown; grooming, Erica Ford; noisiest, Kimberlee Hoffman; most obedient, Seamus Manson. Vegetable models: 1st Linda Woodley, 2nd Belinda Hounsell, 3rd Carla Benson, 4th Lindsay Johnson. Sand saucers: 1st Marc McKenzie, 2nd Belinda Hounsell, 3rd Anita McDonnell, 4th Selena Johnson. The school's next big event is their Christmas concert which will be held on 1 2 December at 8pm.
