Mt Ruapehu rescue

On Monday 18 November a Rotorua school principal, Mr John Taylor, slipped down a hole in snow near the head of the Te Heuheu Valley. Staff from Tongariro National Park Headquarters were alerted but by the time they had made their way to the site of the accident

members of a school group had dug the man free. He had been about llA hours in the snow and was suffering from the early stages of hypothermia. He was brought down the mountain and sent to Taumarunui Hospital where he recovered.
