Wanganui class at Maungarongo
Maungarongo Marae was home to 36 Wanganui school children and seven adults for three days last week when they visited Ohakune on a Held study. The children, who were from St Mary's School in Wanganui, were studying Maori culture and other aspects of life in this region. Sister Nolene, one of the teachers accompanying the children, said they had been learning Maori language and songs in preparation for
the visit and during a formal welcome to the marae on Tuesday three of the children were able to speak in reply. The children had a busy time here visiting many places of interest including the Army Museum and the Burns Pool. They also played sports
with children oi Ohakune School and went walking in the National Park with ranger Brian Norton. On a bus tour of the district they were conducted by Mrs George of Ohakune School who explained points of interest. The children returned to Wanganui on Thursday.
