Maungarongo Marae gala

A very successful gala was held at Maungarongo Marae, Ohakune, on Saturday. A large crowd enjoyed a lovely day and over $2000 was raised for the marae. There were stalls selling food of all kinds, as well as shrubs, clothes and odds and ends. A coconut shy, bowls and darts provided fun, and John Brabyn, and later Charles Mareikura, were big hits with the spinning jinny, and some very worthwhile prizes were won. A sausage stall and othei refreshments kept people going until the delicious hangi at lunchtime, and later housie was played.
