Rescue Trust says 'thank you'
The Waimarino Rescue Trust wishes to sincerely thank all those wonderful people who donated money or goods during the fundraising campaign. To the many helpers — without your assistance the campaign was just a dream. The toll gates on the mountain, the 24-hour radiothon and the display at Wards Airstfip tended to overshadow the many small fundraising activities that were carried out during the appeal by these hard working people. Trust members elected are Terry Tapp, Ian Strachan, representing Lions, Lisa Patterson, Wanganui Aero Work, Trevor Pullen, NZ Police, Bruce Jefferies, Tongariro National Park Board, Godfrey Harvey, trust solicitor and Rotary, Bob Walker, Accident Compensation Corporation.
A working committee consisting of representatives from interested groups and organisations, will be set up to train and coordinatq the rescue crews. The training will- commence almost immediately, but until the helicopter is modified no rescues can be undertaken. The $45,000 raised will cover the cost of conversion and although the trust has no plan for further fundraising, futiire donations would be gratefully received. Those CREW members who have not yet had their helicopter rides should be at the Ohakune Primary School on Wednesday 23rd at 3.15 with their unstamped certificates. Due to the huge response we cannot accept any further CREW members. The delivery of badges has been delayed but as soon as they arrive they will be sent to schools.
