Raetihi Marae problem

Internal misunderstandings at the Raetihi Marae have still not been fully resolved as the Marae Te Kohanga Reo members did not attend a meeting on Sunday. The meeting was called to discuss the dismissal of -the treasurer from the Kohanga Reo and a full financial report from Kohanga Reo was to be given. The Raetihi Marae Te Kohanga Reo sent their apologies for not attending, citing 'personal and sporting commitments'. However the 35 people who did attend met for over four hours. Those who attended were representatives from Maungarongo Marae Trust Train-

ing Group, the Wainui-a-Rua Trust Training group, the Maori Affairs Department, the Ruapehu Trust Training group and Raetihi Marae Trustees. Bessina Rewi presented documents and letters about her dismissal as treasurer from the Raetihi Marae Te Kohanga Reo. It was felt that an injustice had been done and a motion was put for the Raetihi Marae Te Kohanga Reo to make public their reasons for her dismissal. It was suggested that all interested people should meet the group at their own monthly meeting so the matter of Mrs Rewi's dismissal could be resolved.
