Hong Kong visitor at Tongariro Park
Looking around Tongariro National Park for the next month is Cheung Hon Kwong, field officer for Hong Kong's Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Department.
Mr Cheung will be looking at the design and facilities of the park, gathering information to take back to Hong Kong. Hong Kong's parks are much smaller than those in New Zealand but have far more visitors because of the larger population. Every year a field officer from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in Hong Kong is sent overseas to look at national parks and how they operate. This is the first time a field officer has been to New Zealand. Mr Cheung is based at Tongariro National Park, Whakapapa, but is travelling all over the park, and will also look at the timber industry. After his six week stay in the Waimarino, Mr Cheung will spend six weeks touring the Nelson district.
