RAETIHI POOL ENCLOSURE
The Raetihi Pool Enclosure Committee need approval from the three local authorities to proceed with fundraising for the enclosure of the Raetihi Pool. At a meeting between the swimming club and the pool enclosure committee, the swimming club endorsed the project. Later the enclosure committee dis-associated itself from the club, and turned itself into a community committee, which anyone can join. The enclosure committee, chaired by Lance Langdon, will be meeting next week to formulate an approach to the councils. "Fm confident that we will get approval from the local authorities to proceed," said Mr Langdon. At a public meeting held recently, there was favourable response to the proposal. Building advisors attended the meeting to answer questions from the public. Mr
Langdon said almost all of the public were satisfied with their answers. If approval is granted by the councils, fundraising for the $ 1 20,000 may be started before Christmas, but Mr Langdon said they do not want to be asking for money over the Christmas period. The committee have a long list of fundraising ideas including possibly holding a 'Top Town' in the area, with the winners appearing on TV when the series is rescreened next year. Other ideas include a king and queen carnival, gambling, and there was even a suggestion of a surcharge on all drinks sold in the Raetihi Club! The committee would like to raise the money in time to build the enclosure by the end of next year. The 1983 quote for the project was $63,000, a more recent one $97,000, and Mr Langdon believes that next year a realistic figure will be $120,000.
