NZ Speed Skiing record goes at Turoa
Christchurch skier Henry Van Asch, 22, set a new record for New Zealand speed skiing when he recorded a speed of 161.39 kph in the Maungaehuehu Glacier at Turoa Skifields on Sunday. Van Asch also took the New Zealand Steinlager speed skiing series title, winning 3 of the 4 speed skiing trials held throughout New
Zealand this winter. The previous record was 146 kph set at Craigieburn Skifield last year. In second place was Martin Jones of Christchurch with 154.77 kph, closely followed by Ohakune skier Jeff Fields with 150 kph. The trials attracted around a dozen speed skiers and a good following of spectators during the two-day event.
