TUKINO CHOOSE SKI RACE SQUAD

With the introduction of a new Regional Racing Committee to administer ski racing on Mt Ruapehu each skifield has become responsible for the formation of a regional racing squad. At Tukino selection for their skifeld squad took place early in August and 12 promising junior ski racers have been on the slopes each weekend with professional ski instruetor Andy Mardell, formerly of Turoa Ski School. Included in the squad is Sean Casey, winner of the under 1 5 division of the 1984 North Island Championships and promising under1 1 sisters Bridgette and i Penelope Wood who were j second and third in that class in the championships. The squad has been train

ing every weekend and in the second week of the school holidays will receive intensive instruction by a former Swiss Junior National Ski Team member and Tukino resident instruetor, Edith Bahler. Tukino Skifield is hosting the Fresh-Up Tukino Junior Ski Races which are the final junior races on the North Island Racing Circuit on 21/22 September. With the intensive training and instruction received it is hoped that Tukino Junior Squad members will again be to the fore with fine performances as they were in 1984.
