Crippled Children collection

The cold wet day on Thursday 1 August did not deter supporters of the crippled children's shop day run by the Raetihi sub-branch. Secretary Mrs N. Winter said that over $1,900 was collected, and this sum is always increased by late saies and donations. Work done by the crippled children in their workshop in Wanganui sold well. This is always popular and provides handicapped people with a little ppcket money. As always a small crowd waited for the doors to open, and bargains were quickly snapped up. Raffle tickets were bought generously. Winners were: groceries, N. Condon; satin pillow, N. Winter; iced cake, Tara Todd; $20 notes, E. Carmichael and Moira Haitana; sides of mutton, Dorothy Jurgens.
