'Thoroughbreds' win quiz competition

'The Thoroughbreds' won the Waimarino Pony Club's quiz night held at the Anglican Church Hall in Raetihi last week. Twenty youngsters aged between five and seventeen took part in the quiz which was watched by almost 40 parents and other horse enthusiasts. The five teams were questioned on all aspects of the horse and riding techniques.

There were questions on saddlery, road code, shoeing, identifying foodstuffs, feeding, ailments and competitions. The questions were prepared by Nicky Williams, Evelyn Cooper and Ann Roke. The Roke Horse Mastership T rophy , donated by Ann Roke, was awarded to the winning team. The secretary of the New Zealand Pony Club, Mrs

Judy Wakeling attended the quiz. Members of the winning Thoroughbreds team were Nicola Tebay, Marni McGregor, Jacky Henderson and Donovan Morris. The Thoroughbreds narrowly beat 'The Clydesdales', who took second place. This was the first quiz of its kind for the pony club and plans are already underway to hold a similar competition next year.
