Major film premiere in Raetihi
Two thousand dollars was raised at Tuesday 's sneak preview of New Zealand film 'Came A Hot Friday' staged in Raetihi.
The money will go into the Ruapehu Hotel Charity Trust Fund, the aim of which is to make funds available for youngsters of the region who wish to make sporting or educational trips. The evening began with a
wine and cheese supper at the Ruapehu Hotel before the two hundred guests moved on to the Theatre Royal to view the film. At the wine and cheese supper, Mayor of Raetihi, Garrick Workman, said the town was fortunate to have the Parr family, as they were all putting time and effort back into the community. The Ruapehu Hotel Charity Trust was a good example of what the Parrs were trying to accomplish for Raetihi, he said. Mayor W orkman said the idea for a trust was first mooted earlier this year when five young Raetihi divers were struggling to raise funds to travel to the national diving championships in Christchurch. "I sincerely hope the community will get in behind the trust and support it," said the Mayor. After viewing the 90minute movie, which stars Peter Bland (co-founder of Wellington's Downstage Theatre), Phillip Gordon (last seen in the television series 'Inside Straight') and top comedian Billy T. James, the invited guests returned to the Ruapehu Hotel to
continue the evening's entertainment. The film, shot over eight weeks in Eltham and the Wanganui district, has already been sold overseas. 'Came A Hot Friday' is reviewed on page 3.
