Power bill reduction sought
In a bid to cut the Karioi pulp mill's power bill by several hundred thousand dollars a year, Winstone Samsung has applied to buy its electricity direct from the government. The company is one of a
number of big industrial consumers which have lodged applications with Energy Minister Bob Tizard to by-pass the country's power boards and buy their electricity from the government. The Karioi mill took over half the electricity supplied
by the King Country Electric Power Board last year. Finance Minister Roger Douglas announced in his budget speech that there had been considerable concern that power boards were receiving the benefits from large industrial users with a minimum of servicing.
