Waiouru thrift shop
In addition to clothes, kitchenware, shoes and material, the Waiouru thrift shop is now selling books at its stall in the Community Centre each Tuesday. The shop entered the book business last week and started with about 1 50 mainly paperback books all of which were donated. The thrift shop takes 10 percent of the price paid for all articles. The money is then given to a needy group in Waiouru. Most of the clothes sell at
between 10 cents and $2. There is a good turnover of stock because the clothes are reduced to half price after four weeks and are taken out of the shop after six weeks. The shop opens at 10am each Tuesday morning and closes around 11.15am. Thrift shop organiser, Mrs Lynda O'Connor says the shop is going well, although she would like more helpers and permanent premises from which to operate the shop, as she now has to unpack and repack all her stock every Tuesday.
