17-year-old saves match for Old Boys
A tackle by Raetihi 17-year-old, Himi Ratana, five minutes from fulltime, saved the match for Ruapehu College Old Boys at Hunterville on Saturday. Ratana, who saved a certain try, sustained concussion in the tackle on his opposite number and was carried from the field. R.C.O..B's 15-12 win over Hunterville 'A' takes them to an early lead in the Wanganui division three championship. Down 9-0 at half-time, R.C.O.B. looked to have it all ahead of them particularly as they kept giving away "silly penalties," according to coach, Walter Sue. Tayloropenedthe scoring for Celtic with a penalty, but two Steve Gordon tries before half-time gave Ohakune a slender 8-3 lead. Saturday's Under 19s match. Thomas Waara scored two tries in the first half which he also converted on both occasions before being carried off by stretcher with an injured leg. Kevin Martin scored a drop goal just before half time, making the half-time score 1 5-0 to Raetihi. In the second half a try by Caton Te Moana put Raetihi further ahead. Wanganui came straight back with a try. Gabriel Te Moana increased Raetihi's lead with a try and conversion. Wanganui closed the gap before the end of the match with a try and conversion giving the final score of 2510 in Raetihi's favour.
