Waimarino County news briefs
A picnic area is to be established and two flushing toilets are to be built on the Ruatiti Domain. Waimarino County along with the Lands and Surveys Department have set up a committee to plan the venture. ★ ★ ★ The county's weed control officer Joe Martin, has a new Subaru utility van. The county traded in their old Holden for $6,000, and purchased the Subaru for approximately $19,000. ★ ★ ★
Councillors have agreed to upgrade the county's oldest Ford- truck, which has covered 300,000 kms. A new short block will be fitted to the vehicle. ★ ★ ★ Two road construction workers, Messrs. Hall and Hooper, have resigned their positions to work elsewhere. The positions will be advertised shortly. ★ * ★ The section of road works from the Ranger Station to MacLeans Clearing (2.4 km) has been completed, apart from the second coat of a 500m section. This section is included in next summer's reseal programme. ★ ★ ★ Noxious plants' officer Mr A. J. Martin reported that barley grass control work will start later this month and continue until October. ★ ★ ★ Councillors decided to make work available under a PEP scheme for an unem-. ployed man living in Rangataua.
Cr. Gavin Jones suggested the council should institute a full scheme involving a larger number of workers. Other councillors pointed out there was a shortage of unemployed workers locally.
