The Road Works

by

J

.D.

The following poem was written for the Bulletin by a resident of Raetihi Road, who has had to endure road works outside her home for several months:

First came the long necked loaders, A bit like a giraffe with their height, The neck stretches further and further out, So the jaws can take a great bite. Lorries come roaring up for a load, A Euclid joins the fray, Looking like something from outer space, As they cart the spoil away. Day after day the thick dust rises, Stirred by vehicles passing by, Day after day I long for rain, And gaze hopefully up at the sky. Later come the lorries with metal, To be tipped as they move along, And spread by a noisey grader, Who has come to join the throng. "Sakai SW70" comes rolling along, His whine can really pierce, Then come his brothers dead slow and stop, And the noise is really fierce. The water vehicle is one of the last, But at least it lays the dust, While adding a bit more to the noise, ^ Even the decibels are going bust. I'm sure we will have a good road way, When the noises finally cease, Then the roaders and graders will go back to their depot, And leave us people in peace.
