Jacyn back from California

Jacyn Bramley, of Ohakune returned last week from the Ski Development Team Camp in Squaw Valley, where he and eight other young New Zealanders spenl seven weeks training. Shirene Mosaed, from Raetihi, the other local skier who was in the team, returned several weeks ago. Jacyn*, a fourth-former at Ruapehu College, participated in three races during his time there and says the competition was very tough. He competed against about 150 skiers, who were mainly American. "Most of the kids who were there, get the amount of training we get in two years injust one season," he said. Apart from races, the rest of the time on the mountain was spent training with John Ball, the Director on the Ski Academy at Turoa. The group trained six days per week from nine in the morning until 4pm. Jacyn says the longest time they spent in a lift queue was five minutes as there was a tram which carried 120 people, a gondola and 20 chairlifts on the mountain. Jacyn enjoyed ice skating and bowling on his days off from skiing and says he spent "lots of money" while in Los Angeles before going to Squaw Valley. He believes his skiing has improved greatly from the training and is looking

forward to putting his experience into practice during the New Zealand ski season.

He hopes to win a place in a team next year so he will be able to travel back to America for more training.
