Rene's kiwi goes back to the bush
Pictured is Rene Bloxham with a kiwi which was found by Tommy Waara's bush-cutting gang in Pipiriki last week. The kiwi was given to Rene to look after until a home was found for it. She had the bird for two days and kept it in her wood shed, where it liked to hide under the wood during the day. Normally, kiwis which are found by bush-cutting gangs are put back into the
bush, but the area of bush where this kiwi made his home is being completetly cleared so it was necessary to find him a new one. The bird has now been liberated in another area of bush. Rene says she has had great fun looking after the bird, which proved popular with local children. "We even had him sitting in the lounge one night!" Rene was unsure what to feed the bird, but chopped up cabbage for him and hurtted in her garden for worms!
