Mountain Road

The National Roads Board recently announced the allocation of a further $50,000 to go with the $140,000 they have paid out to the Waimarino County Council for work on the Ohakune Mountain Road. Consulting engineer, Graham Long, said the extra money would be used for the widening of the road from the Ranger Station to a point 2x/i kilometres further up. "The ultimate objective is to get a continuous road 6 metres wide right up to the car park," Mr Long added. Hurlstones, who have the contract for resealing the road, and some shape correction work, are optimistic that this year's work will be completed well before the cold weather sets in.
